ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.

— As St. Petersburg Police search for the suspect who gunned down a 24-year-old roofing contractor and father, the roofer’s family is seeking help.

Police have released surveillance footage related to the fatal shooting of Jason Carr in the hopes that someone can help identify the person responsible.

“While it is difficult to see his face clearly, we believe someone who knows him will recognize his gait or clothing,” the police department said in a written statement.

According to police, Carr was shot in the parking lot of a Round Rock TX Roof building located at 2570 25th Ave. North on Dec. 9. Officers received a call around 6:30 a.m., and upon arrival, found Carr suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to Bayfront Hospital in critical condition, but later died as a result of the injuries.

As police continue to look for answers, the family of Carr has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for funeral and burial expenses. As of Dec. 16, just under $9,000 has been raised of the $15,000 goal. According to Carr’s father, Jason E. Carr, the funeral will be held on Dec. 21.

“We don't have enough money at this time for a proper, dignified funeral that he well deserves. Any donations would help with our desire to have a burial,” said Carr’s father.

According to the GoFundMe page, Carr was considered a “great worker” by the roofing company’s owner and was on his way to becoming a journeyman roofer.

“He was a great kid who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. He wore his heart on his sleeve,” Carr’s father said. “He loved life. He loved people and all living things, including his two little brothers Joseph and Cayden, his beautiful 7 year old son Ethan and his parents Joy Steinruck and myself.”

The family is at a loss for words, as there appears to be no motive for the shooting.

“We are in a state of emotional turmoil because of what happened only moments after he was dropped off at work,” Carr’s father said. “He was shot several times from behind by a masked gunman. A senseless act of violence that he did not deserve.”
